Dec. 2013: From our Founder

Can you believe another holiday season is upon us? It is utterly amazing how quickly 2013 has flown by. But I have to admit, it has been an amazing year for the entire Ostomysecrets® team. Where to begin? Well, I guess I should start at the beginning.

Lisa, our Founder

In the first half of the year not only did we release a few new products, but we featured some very useful and hopefully encouraging information in the newsletter when we did a three part series on pelvic floor health and hernia prevention/management. We continue to strive for providing helpful, current, applicable information that can make your life as a person with an ostomy a little easier. Missed these articles or want to re-read? They’re available in our April – June Life & Style Newsletter archive.

Also in the first half of the year many of our team members spoke in a variety of venues around the country. At times I was in New York City and New Jersey while Cricket was in Hartford and Boston. Both Cricket and I were honored to speak to sophomore nursing students at the University of Tampa while many members on our team watched their odometers turn rapidly as they visited ostomy support groups in all parts of their represented states: California, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio and Wisconsin. It was a wonderful year for spreading the word about Ostomysecrets®, and I can gratefully say that our products and vision have been very well received.

The month of May hit and my family moved from Tampa to New Jersey, back to my old stomping grounds. It has been a wonderful move as my whole family is loving the change. Along with the change of getting adjusted to a new home, area and school, we had a lot more travel for the Ostomysecrets® team.

In July, a contingent of our team flew out to Seattle for the annual WOCN Conference. It was at the conference where we unveiled our new Ostomysecrets® logo, branding and overall look. It was also where we gave sneak peeks for many new products and were able to get feedback from the nurses. Also during this month we met and featured an article with the Great Comebacks® Award Recipient, Walt Brilhart. Being such a supporter of the Great Comebacks® program, it is always neat to hear about all the winners and focus in on their stories.

Summer was a big time for Ostomysecrets® as we released the Polka Dot Swim Bottom along with our Men’s Board Short. We continue to be amazed at how many people have bought these items and keep asking for more.

As summer came to an end we attended the UOAA National Conference in Jacksonville, FL. We always love these conferences because this is when we get to talk with our customers. We love hearing feedback and this is where we get many ideas for how to make our products better. It is always a great event and this year was no different.

October marked our 5 year anniversary from when I first sold a pair of underwear over the phone, out of my garage. As I look back at all that has transpired not just this year, but over the last five years, I honestly just shake my head back and forth while a strange little grin comes across my face. Then I smile and say “Thank you” to everyone who has made it possible.

And now we find ourselves at the end of 2013. We are winding down and preparing for holiday time; time with friends and families, time to hopefully take a few days to rest and get out of the usual schedule, time to just breathe in everything for which you are thankful. I hope it’s a wonderful time for you all and that as you reflect upon what has gone on in 2013, that there are moments of fun, beauty, and happiness. See you in 2014!
